Art Projects

The author does not try to dress emptiness into the beautiful wrapper of quality of the surface. On the contrary, Elena Asseeva tries to make the picture maximally clear and in a blink imprinting in the mind of the viewer like a matrix, because she is drawing for the new generation, overloaded with web images and perceiving art from loptop screens. “Coliadki” (2007), “The Book of Angels” (2008), “The Point” (2009), “Eu” (2009)  – all of these projects are united not only by the synthesis of text and image, but also by unique capacity of the author to build each time a new world, like a new film. Like a movie director, artist picks up the characters for each new series, writes the script and dialogues with her life or their own destiny, but she never takes the side of the viewer in an attempt to guess his desires. Elena Asseeva in her work speaks by words and images, and to enter into the dialogue or not – it is your choice…”

Elena Asseeva. Treasures of Memories (2011-2012)

Text  Video  Project description

This project is an internal conversation of the author not only with herself, but with the soul of the land on which she was born (North-Western Caucasus, Gelendzhik). This inner voice led the artist, seeking the answers to the many difficult questions, from the Black Sea coast to the heights of the Caucasus. Author gradually moves from the images of her childhood in a part “Sky” (“Mama”, “Sea”, “Odor”) to the voices of the rivers, mountains, old gardens and grass – to what where can be heard completely different sound (“Prayer”, “Hairs”, “Land”). Text and images joined together in a video installation. The project “Caucasus Morpheus. Treasure of memories” (text, painting, video) consists of 40 works and 40 stories thematically linked to the sub-themes: “Sky,” “Land”, “Water,” “Fire” “Man”. This project was made during a month of Death, November, which author has spent without leaving a house, just writing and painting. A series of 24 acrylic artworks on canvas and set of short poetic rhymes is united by four in six days of “A Diary”, like into some magical six days of Creation. “A Diary” is a sketching, filming of the path, which human soul makes in order to penetrate through some life cycles. Elena Asseeva’s project “A Diary” unites three components: the image, the text and a video. In the project there are a conflict, the culmination, and a revival — all steps which take place in the personal “scenario” on the way to inner freedom. We see, as narration goes on, a disclosing of absolutely new sides in the language of the author. This project is deeply autobiographical, and in it its sincerity. Simplicity of images, simplicity of the text, video usage not as a «modern gadget» but as irreplaceable and unique element of this project, harmoniously connecting the text and a visual thread in an original outline – all it ,akes a “Diary” noteworthy for the modern spectator. “Diary” fragments have been shown at Art Manege 2010 (Moscow), in gallery Leone (Rome) and at exhibition of nominees of award Premio della Lupa, hotel Sheraton (Rome). “A Diary ” is a part of Uomo Introspettivo Project (Vadim Belousov, Paolo Miserini, Maxim Protzenko, Elena Asseeva, Julia Luchkina). Uomo Introspettivo Project was exhibited in full scale in the Krasnodar Fine Art Museum in December 2011. Elena Asseeva. Eu (2009)

Project “Еu” is a visual text story based on the text of Karen Djanguirov’s  novel “Eu”. It is consisting of 40 graphic works and video. “Eu” possesses a magic to move the reader into the strange, but pleasant irreality, and it is absolutely deprived from any mystical essence. It is the best prose made by human, one of pearls of the modern Russian literature. Part of the Project Eu was presented in May 2010 in exhibition center “Maliy Manezh” in Moscow.

Elena Asseeva. The Point (2009)

“The Point” is the first project implemented in collaboration with Canada based poet Karen Djanguirov (Montreal). The project consists of a 21 graphic works and the video. The project was exhibited at the gallery “Ardena” (Moscow) in 2010.

Elena Asseeva. Reference: Coliadki (2006)

Project description  Elena Asseeva. “Reference: Coliadki”

«Coliadki» are the winter Ritual Slavic songs (Colo – is a mythological year circle, also Colo is the name of the Arctic peninsula in Russia). Project was based on patterns from folk Russian and Ukrainian embroidery on sacred  towels , traditional wooden window ornaments, stone and wooden folk sculpture. Project consists of series of graphic art works (24 pieces, 21 X 29 sm, watercolor, ink, collage on paper), Kolo Type, developed specially for the project, studies of the old Slavic Ornament and also series of oil painting and printed art-works, where images are joined with texts of Koliadki Songs and embroidery. This series is a part of bigger project “Reference”, made with two great genius Russian artists, Nikita Brinev and Andrey Dorokhin. This series was made in Afghanistan in 2006.
